This privacy policy describes how the Musikerkennung Browser Extension ("Extension", "we" or "us") collects, uses, and protects your data when you use our Chrome extension.

By installing and using our extension, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use.

1. WHAT DATA DO WE COLLECT?

In short: The extension only collects audio data that you actively record for music recognition, as well as your local settings.

Audio Data

When you activate the recording function, the extension captures:

• Tab Audio: Audio playing in the current browser tab (only when you choose this option)
• Microphone Audio: Audio from your microphone (only when you choose this option and grant permission)

These audio recordings are only created when you actively click the record button. There is no automatic or background recording.

Local Settings

The extension stores the following settings locally on your device:

• Language preference (German/English)
• Auto-record preference
• Recording duration setting
• Recognition mode (Single/Multiple)
• Audio source preference (Tab/Microphone)

Recognition History

Recognized songs and saved recordings are stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB). This data never leaves your device unless you actively send a recording for recognition.

2. REQUIRED PERMISSIONS

The extension requires the following permissions:

• tabCapture: To record audio from the current browser tab
• storage: To locally save your settings and recognition history
• Microphone (optional): Only required if you want to record ambient audio. You will be asked for this permission separately.

All permissions are used only for their intended purposes and are not misused.

3. HOW DO WE USE YOUR DATA?

In short: Audio data is used exclusively for music recognition and then deleted.

• Music Recognition: Recorded audio is sent to our servers to identify songs.
• Local Storage: When enabled, recordings are stored locally so you can re-recognize songs later.
• No Profiling: We do not create user profiles or track your behavior.
• No Advertising: The extension contains no advertising and does not share data with ad networks.

4. DATA STORAGE

Local Storage (on your device)

• Settings are stored in chrome.storage.local
• Recognition history and recordings are stored in IndexedDB
• This data stays on your device and is not automatically shared with us
• You can delete this data at any time through the extension settings or by uninstalling

Server-Side Processing

• Audio data sent for recognition is processed temporarily
• Audio is immediately deleted from our servers after recognition is complete
• We do not store copies of your audio recordings

5. DATA TRANSMISSION

When you send a recording for recognition:

• Audio data is transmitted over a secure HTTPS connection
• Only the audio data is sent - no personal information, device identifiers, or browsing history
• Data transmission only occurs when you actively request recognition

6. THIRD PARTIES

The extension uses:

• Musikerkennung API: Our own servers for music recognition (musikerkennung.com)

We do not share any data with third parties for advertising, analytics, or other purposes.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

You have the following rights:

• Access: All your data is viewable locally in the extension
• Deletion: You can delete all local data through the settings
• Revocation: You can revoke permissions at any time in browser settings
• Uninstallation: When uninstalled, all local extension data is deleted
